Here I will post some of the creative pieces that I’ve written over the past few years, mostly poems but an occasional short story will pop up. If I had to guess, this would be the part of the website that will be updated most frequently. My hope is to write a new poem every week or two (or three or four or …) and plop it here.
I’ve always been drawn to the uglier parts of life and people: they steal, they cheat, they lie, they fall ill, they become addicted, they get trapped in abusive relationships, they die. Life is often far from pretty; for many, it is dark and ambiguous. I tried to write my poems as such. Like one of my favorite poets, D.A. Powell, I would be disappointed if these poems were believed to be autobiographical in nature. They are not. While all of my poems come from some part of my life, often a very personal part, details—some small, some very large—have been fabricated. I do not believe that makes the poems any less true.
Here, I have carefully selected some of these poems and stories. Some were fun to write while others hurt very much to do so. Perhaps you will enjoy a few of these poems—I’m optimistic that you will connect with one or, if I’m lucky, two. At the very least, I enjoyed writing them and that’s all I can really ask for.
