The following is a modification1 The original poem went like this:
When I compare my heart
from before we met
to after we made love,
I know I had not yet grasped
the pain of loving you. of a poem written by Fujiwara no Atsutada, a Japanese poet who lived from 906–943 AD. It was translated by Peter MacMillan in One Hundred Poets, One Poem Each: A Treasury of Classical Japanese Verse.
I suppose I think that my slight modification was better. I guess you are to judge.
When I compare my heart
from before we met
to after we fell from love,
I know I had not yet grasped
the pain of loving you.
