So if you’re one of the maybe five people that know this website exists, then you have probably seen my big banner image:
And maybe, you’ve even wondered what the hell that could possibly be. Since you are a loyal fan, I shall tell you. It’s radio waves being emitted from the Milky Way’s center. When I was setting up this website in June 2019 or whatever, I must have stumbled across this image (from NASA, I think), liked it, and then shamelessly stole it and made it my banner.
History doesn’t repeat itself, but it does rhyme. Just today, I randomly found out that some scientists from South Africa have an even better (i.e. more penetrative and detailed) image of our galactic center:
Obviously the color scheme is different, but the field of view is basically the same. And lo-and-behold, the data matches! The South African data is clearly more detailed, and looks a little spooky. But I find it so beautiful. I hope you do too.
